Day 11 - Executive PGDM at NMIMS, Hyderabad

Writing this after a long time, had a long week off due to Diwali. We all were meeting today after a long long break. Moreover as I told in the last post, there are a lot of tests, assignments and presentations lined up for today and tomorrow. So without wasting much time here is how Day 11 - Executive PGDM at NMIMS, Hyderabad was.

Mid Term exam for Financial Accounting

During my school and college days, mid terms exams were a big thing and we literally had a proper schedule for it. However things were quite different today. I was kindof prepared for the test. However what I didn't know was that this would be a proper exam with invigilators, different class rooms, seating arrangements and answer sheets. Nonetheless, the question paper was as expected. A question on Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, one of Depreciation and another on Inventory costing. Well, I'd say I did average. I did mess up with the Income Statement and Balance Sheet. Let's see how much I score. Apart from the exam we learnt about Financial Ratios like Asset Turnover, Equity Multiplier, EBIT, EBITDA.

Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation and Amortisation

One good thing we were told is that many startups show EBITDA rather than EBIT because they usually run in loses initially but to show a better looking numbers, they show EBITDA as this includes Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation expenses.

Microeconomics - Introduction to Taxes

Microeconomics was as expected. A lot of talks about US and how things are there. Introduced to how the taxation is done in the USA. Talked about Budget Deficit, Budget Excess and other phenomena like Dead-weight loss. Lots of concepts talked about but not much went in my head. And as always I'll say I need to spend sometime and study.

Probability of Statistics

I hate the days when we have such heavy subjects all on the same day. Anyways, we continued learning about probability. We had learnt about Binomial Probability in the last class. We learnt about Poisson and Normal Distribution ways to calculate probability. Lot's of confusion here. I remember my engineering days when I actually spent sleepless nights understanding how all of these were derived ! A mid term scheduled after a couple of weeks, hence will probably spend time sometime this week understanding the concepts.
