Continuing from the last post where we discussed about Customer Relationship and the various channels through which we deal with them. It ca be either via the traditional snail mail or the new age digital media, the choice is upon the management to decide what to go for. So what ever we did till here was more about the value proposition and the various customer facing activities. However what we deal in this and the upcoming posts would be about everything that happens behind the scenes. The first thing that we would look into will be the Key Activities.

Key Activities in a Business Model

Whenever you are coming with with a new business idea, you need to consider what are the various activities that you would perform in order to deliver the value promised. There may be a lot of activities however only few would be the key ones. The Key Activities portion of the Business Model canvas helps you define that. For instance you might have a e-commerce website, in that case, the key activities might include development of website, maintaining data center operations, logistics and so on.

Continuing with the Uber's Business Model, like mentioned earlier, there can be many activities but only a few activities. So in case of Uber, the key activities can be platform development, customer support, diver support, maintaining the platform - apps, back end etc. You can have a look at the below business model canvas.
