Day 1 - Executive PGDM at NMIMS, Hyderabad

So yes this will be the title I'll be following, simple and easy to keep a track of. You would have read my earlier post where I spoke about the Inauguration of the program. We didn't have any classes last week  and today -August 27,2017 - was our first class. It did feel quite different going to college after a brief break. And I'm sure all my friends felt the same too ! So here's a quick run through of my experience of  Day 1 of Executive PGDM at NMIMS, Hyderabad.

School chalein hum...

Being an early riser, getting up early on a Sunday morning wasn't a tough task for me. Classes were scheduled to start at 9:00hrs. The college being in Tarnaka, I left at 8:15 so as to reach in time. I reached the college and already found few of my friends already. We were literally singing "School chalein hum..." (The famous jingle of Govt. of India's Education for all initiative) We all felt nostalgic getting back to college with bags and stuff. For some like me it was a break of close to 4 years while for many others it was more than 10 years ! Hats off to those guys.

Day 1 of Executive PGDM - exciting day

We were supposed to be learning about IT for Managers, Understanding Fundamentals of Management and Financial Accounting. Each lecture being close to 2hrs long. We started off with ITM and were given an intro about the subject. Since I'm already from the IT background, didn't face much issues understanding what the professor was talking. Be it Cloud, Cyber Security, ERP, OSI Layers etc. So the first class for ITM was good.

ITM was followed by UFM where we were provided with a few case studies to identify cases related to management. And trust me whatever we thought was management was actually not ! Reality Check, need to change our thought process ! It was more of a discussion based lecture and got to know a lot of insights with practical examples form diverse industries. We broke for lunch after this. Me being a Foodie, got to the cafeteria quickly and grabbed a plate. And what I saw for lunch ? My favourite - Aloo Bhindi and Kadhi ! I remember while I was clicking the below photo, my friend was like "Iska bhi photo ?" (Photo of the food also ?) - No 1. Food Blogger in Hyderabad so I should be doing this. We were back to class after a scrumptious meal.

Had another lecture of UFM for an hour before Financial Accounting. The name itself scared me because that is something I've no idea of. Until unless reading the business section of the newspaper falls here ! The professor spoke about everything from the organisation structure to account information systems. He gave some real good insights about the type of companies, regulatory filings, markets and alike. Lots of heavy dose of accounting on the first day itself. I surely need to put in some serious efforts in this !

All in all a great first day of college. I didn't realise how the time passed at least till the lunch. Since these topics are something that I like, I enjoyed the classes. Next class on 3rd Sept so signing off till that time. Any queries or suggestions, mention in the comments below.
